Artist Statement
Dr. Ade Ogundimu’s practice spans painting and sculpture, centering on themes of identity, postcolonial memory, and the evolving narratives of contemporary African life. Drawing from his Nigerian roots and experiences as an artist in London, Ogundimu explores the psychological and cultural aftereffects of empire, migration, and belonging.
His dynamic brushwork, rich colour palettes, and abstract symbolism infuse his works with the tension and vibrancy of the modern era. Through a visual language that connects personal experience to collective history, he invites reflection on resilience, human rights, and cultural renewal. Each piece creates a dialogue between Africa and its diasporas, between tradition and innovation, and between the past and the future.
Biography
Born in London, England, Dr. Ade Ogundimu is a contemporary Nigerian painter and sculptor whose work examines postcolonial legacies, national identity, and cultural heritage.
He began his studies at Yaba College of Technology in Lagos, Nigeria, earning an Ordinary National Diploma (OND) in General Art and a Higher National Diploma (HND) in Fine Art. He continued his education in London, obtaining a Diploma in Photolithography and Graphics from the University of the Arts, a course in Pop Art at the University of Oxford, and later a BA (Hons) in Fine Art (Sculpture), an MA in Fine Art, and a Professional Doctorate in Fine Art (DProf) from the University of East London.
Before committing fully to studio practice, Ogundimu held senior positions in the creative industry, including partnerships with Falco Design and Print Ltd and a directorship at DigitalBait Dot Net Ltd. His works have been widely exhibited across London at Alexandra Palace, Arc Gallery, Frameless Gallery, and Gallery 639, with international presentations in India and Germany.
Notable exhibitions include Forbidden Fruit, Rising Generations, Erotica, Ariya: A Celebration of Colour, and Legacies of Biafra. Through expressive brushwork, dynamic forms, and nuanced colour, Ogundimu captures the tensions and triumphs of contemporary African experience—celebrating resilience, transformation, and the enduring power of visual storytelling.
