Ato Arinze (BIOGRAPHY)

Artist Statement
I constantly reflect on when Black Africans will truly be free from the psychological and cultural programming imposed by imperialism. Centuries of external control have conditioned us to distrust, fight, and destroy one another while our natural and human resources continue to be exploited. This manipulation has shaped our society into one of confusion, dependency, and disunity.

My artistic practice is rooted in observing these social realities—those reflected in my immediate environment and amplified through the media. Through sculpture, I engage with issues of identity, unity, and liberation, using form and symbolism to question established narratives and awaken consciousness.

My works stand as reminders and calls to action. They emphasize that our true adversaries are not our tribal or regional brothers, but the external and systemic forces that benefit from our division. The African mind must be liberated from fear, inferiority, and the illusion of separateness. Through art, I aim to provoke dialogue and foster awareness that leads to collective transformation. Each piece becomes a visual meditation on truth, resistance, and the enduring spirit of African unity.
