Emmanuel Dudu (BIOGRAPHY)
ARTIST BIOGRAPHY
Emmanuel Dudu was born in Benin City in 1974. He began his education in Benin before proceeding to Auchi Polytechnic in 1995, where he obtained a Higher National Diploma (HND) in 1999. Shortly after, he moved to Lagos to pursue full-time studio practice. He later earned a Bachelor of Arts (B.A) degree from the University of Lagos in 2007, a Master’s degree (M.A) in Visual Art History from the same institution in 2012, and a Master of Fine Arts (M.F.A) in Painting from Delta State University. He is currently a Doctoral candidate in Visual Art at the University of Benin, Nigeria.
Dudu’s works are widely collected. Among his notable public installations are a repurposed art piece hanging in the main atrium of Maryland Mall, Lagos, and another at Muri Okunola Park beside Lagos Law School. His recent painting is also part of the collection at the Mohammed VI Museum in Rabat, Morocco.
A member of both the Society of Nigerian Artists (SNA) and the Guild of Professional Fine Artists of Nigeria (GFA), Dudu has participated in over thirty group exhibitions and held three solo exhibitions. He was awarded First Prize (Lagos) in the RecyclArt Competition, an art competition on repurposed materials organized by Sterling Bank Nigeria Plc in 2017.
Dudu is also featured in 101 Nigerian Artists by Ben Bosah, a publication chronicling notable contemporary Nigerian artists.
