Artist Statement
My work centres on portraiture, where the imaginative figures I paint engage with their own emotional states. I use a non-traditional colour palette—often monochromatic tones accented with contrasting or complementary hues—to evoke feeling and tension. Through a combination of palette knife and brushwork, I create textured surfaces that emphasize the interplay of light and shadow.

Each piece begins with reflection on themes of the human condition, guiding my intent to convey a spectrum of emotion through my subjects’ expressions and demeanour. I intentionally expose parts of the underpainting as a visual metaphor for the relationship between beauty and imperfection—what lies beneath as much as what is seen.

My practice is a continually evolving journey to explore the complexities of human experience through imaginative expression. I aim to evoke a sense of visual wonder, offering viewers space to emotionally connect with the figures I depict and, in doing so, reflect on their own interior lives.
