Josh Nmesirionye (BIOGRAPHY)

Joshua Nmesirionye (b. April 21, 1968) is a multifaceted artist dedicated to full-time studio practice. Working across landscapes, portraits, watercolours, oils, and murals, Nmesirionye tells his stories through richly textured surfaces inspired by people, his environment, and imagination. His goal is to bridge representational art with abstract and contemporary sensibilities through the physicality of paint on canvas.

Over the years, he has participated in numerous exhibitions, including Icons Masters Exhibition (2025), Phoenix Tower, Eko Atlantic City, Lagos; Charity Art Exhibition (2015), London, organized by LS Art Gallery in aid of the Artists’ General Benevolent Institution and Excel, Sierra Leone; Essentials (2015), Lagos, organized by Alexis Gallery; Transcending Boundaries (2015), London, organized by Abbru Art; and Colours of Hope (2014), Lagos. His works have also appeared at auction through TKMG in 2011 and 2012.

Nmesirionye was commissioned to create a large-scale graffiti and mural design for Milo Food Drink at Nestlé’s Lagos Head Office in 2012. He received the Distinguished Artist Award from the Society of Nigerian Artists (SNA), Lagos Chapter, in 2015.

He holds both a National Diploma and Higher National Diploma in General Art from Auchi Polytechnic, Edo State (1996, 1998). Nmesirionye is a member of the Universal Studios of Art, Lagos, where he continues to practice, teach, and mentor emerging artists. He is also a member of the Society of Nigerian Artists (SNA) and the Guild of Professional Fine Artists of Nigeria (GFA).
