Norbert Okpu (BIOGRAPHY)
ARTIST STATEMENT
Having lived across the north, south, west, and east of Nigeria, I am deeply inspired by the country’s diversity and the resilience of its people. Art provides me with the platform to express my experiences through the use of colour, texture, and material — including wood, fabric, paper, and found objects. My works reflect interactions with people from various cultural backgrounds and explore themes of self-worth, security, survival, and hope.
The layered compositions and overlapping forms in my paintings mirror the interconnectedness of human existence — a visual metaphor for our collective struggle and the constant motion of everyday life.
