ARTIST STATEMENT
I am a Nigerian visual artist exploring the interplay of light, colour, and emotion through oil, acrylic, pastel, and charcoal. My work draws inspiration from my surroundings and everyday experiences, using impressionistic techniques and vibrant palettes to document human stories and cultural heritage. I aim for my art to spark creativity, foster connection, and promote well-being — offering viewers a sense of beauty, unity, and reflection on the shared narratives that define us.
ARTIST BIOGRAPHY
Olajide Salako (b. 1981, Badagry, Lagos) is a Nigerian painter known for his expressive use of colour and light. He earned a National Certificate of Education in Fine Art from Adeniran Ogunsanya College of Education, Ijanikin, Lagos, in 2009, and trained under master artists at the Universal Studios of Art, National Theatre, Lagos, where he remains an attaché member.
Salako has participated in several notable exhibitions, including Nuggets at Mydrim Gallery, Cupid at Alexis Galleries, and October Rain at Nike Art Gallery. His work captures everyday scenes with depth and vibrancy, celebrating cultural identity and human resilience.
He is a member of the Society of Nigerian Artists (SNA), the Guild of Professional Fine Artists of Nigeria (GFA), and the Universal Studios of Art, Lagos. Salako lives and works in Lagos, where he continues to develop his distinctive visual language through full-time studio practice.
