Taiwo Owoyemi (BIOGRAPHY)

Born on January 14, 1986, Taiwo Owoyemi is a multidisciplinary visual artist whose practice reflects a deep engagement with material transformation and social commentary. He earned a B.Ed in Fine Art from Obafemi Awolowo University in 2006 and an MFA in Sculpture from the University of Benin in 2015. A member of both the Society of Nigerian Artists (SNA) and the Guild of Professional Fine Artists of Nigeria (GFA), Owoyemi has developed a distinctive formal technique he terms Repoussé Assemblage Sculpture (RAS) — an innovative approach that repurposes discarded aluminium cans into intricate sculptural compositions.

Through this process, he explores themes of consumption, waste, and human choice, revealing the aesthetic and symbolic potential of materials society often discards. His work demonstrates both technical mastery and conceptual depth, merging environmental consciousness with artistic experimentation.

Owoyemi has held four solo exhibitions, including his most recent, Spectrum and Strings Attached (Pier Harbour Residence, Lagos, 2025), and has participated in numerous group exhibitions and workshops across Nigeria.
