Creatures of Habit II

Acrylic on canvas

30.5 x 40cm

My work spans a broad array of mediums, including acrylic, oil, pastel, wood, plaster, unconventional materials, and text. I draw inspiration from literature, portraiture, theater, architecture, biology, and chemistry. This eclectic blend extends into my visual language, where I juxtapose traditional Chinese symbols with Ghanaian motifs to explore and parody the complex relationships between these two cultures—particularly as they intersect with issues of geopolitics, socio-economics, ecology, and history.

Through techniques such as screen printing, hand sewing, block stamping, and stenciling, I incorporate materials with layered historical connotations, such as Gentian violet and indigo dye. These materials, with their imperialist implications, add another layer of critique, allowing me to probe the bittersweet legacies that continue to shape global interactions today.
